in Prayer Letters
“Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice. Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.” Philippians 4:4, 6
Thankful in the Little Things
I have so much to be thankful for! I am grateful for a loving Heavenly
Father who knows just what we need and when . . . or if we don’t need it at
all, despite what we may think. You are all aware of the trip to Spain that
the Lord allowed me to take this summer; it was an amazing two months that
reminded me just why I am heading there to serve the Lord. I am fully aware
of the need everywhere. I don’t think that Spain is a better mission field
than any other country, but for me it is. The Lord used this summer of
ministry, visiting with friends, getting to know Spain better and chatting
with missionaries to confirm this in my heart.
I am also thankful for friends. The Lord gave me almost a month in New
Hampshire and Vermont visiting with friends. I was able to stay with several
friends from Dublin, NH and am grateful for their hospitality to me. I was
also able to spend several days with my friend Natalie while I attended a
missions conference at her church in Vermont. It was wonderful to catch up
with friends and hear about how they are doing, how God is leading, and to
share what the Lord has been doing in my life.
The Lord also allowed Jonathan and Lorena (Albright) Templeton and I to
spend about week and a half together. We were able to be in a couple of
churches together where they shared their burden for the Spanish people. It
was encouraging and challenging to me to be with friends who have a very
similar goal of getting to Spain, to reach the least-evangelized
Spanish-speaking country with the gospel of Christ. I praise the Lord for
the friends that He uses to encourage us when we truly do need it.
This is definitly not the only other blessing that the Lord has shown me
since my last prayer letter, but it is significant to me. While I was
visiting friends in New England, I dropped my phone in water . . . a lot of
water. I knew there could be nothing good to come out of that situation, at
least not for my phone. I prayed that the Lord would allow it to not be
damaged, or at least to allow the repairs, if necessary, to be affordable.
By the time I got home the next day, it was a pretty sad piece of hardware.
So I decided that I would visit the store and see what they could do for me.
For about the milionth time, I asked the Lord to provide, because I knew I
wouldn’t be able to pay very much for repairs or a new phone. And He
answered my prayers . . . not surprisingly! My phone was replaced for free.
Praise the Lord for the small ways that He takes care of us every day!
A Lesson a Day
Every day the Lord teaches me something, but the reoccuring lesson seems to
be reminders of God’s perfect timing. As much as I would love to be in Spain
already, the Lord will provide churches and support in His time, and I need
to keep that in front of me all the time. If I start wishing I were already
there, I will lose the blessing of ministering here and now.
I mentioned in my last email that I am working towards scheduling
internships with Campus Bible Fellowship International and praying for
meetings in the areas I will need to be. As of now, it looks like I will be
in Miami the end of January/beginning of February (it’s okay, you can feel
sorry for me that I have to endure such horribly warm weather in the middle
of the winter), and in Boulder, Co and North Carolina sometime in August and
Please pray that the Lord would open the doors of churches in these areas. I
don’t have many connections in those areas, but am trusting the Lord to
provide just what I need.
Walking in History
The last couple of weeks have been very enjoyable, due in part to Fall, my
favorite season. I love the changing colors and the crisp weather. This fall
however, has been filled with a lot of visiting with friends. Jonathan and
Lorena Templeton, future coworkers in Spain, have spent some time in New
England on deputation. We had a fun time being tourists in Maine, New
Hampshire, and my favorite, Boston (yes, I know Boston is not a state . . .
so to be consistent, Massachusetts.) I am thankful for the time of
fellowship and encouragement that the Lord has provided with all of the
friends that I have been able to stay with and visit while I have been in
New England for the past month.
Fall in Vermont
I was definitely looking forward to the colors in Vermont last week when I
was able to visit. But the opportunity to spend time with friends is always
something that I cherish. I am grateful to the Lord for all the God-centered
friends that He has blessed me with.
Thank you again for all of your prayer and financial support. The Lord uses
each of you to be an encouragement to me and I am thiankful to count you as
part of my ministry to the people of Spain!
